NGATEA., TRUCK LINES. The truck lines which have been used recently at Pipiroa are at present being moved to Ngatea, where they are being laid from Johnstone c wharf and will later extend to Parry s corner. One of the engines to run the trucks was unloaded at the wharf on Friday,- so it apepars that the work of metalling the road is to commence immediately. The laying down of the line has already commenced. WAITAKARURU. STOCK SALE. There was a good yarding of stock at the Waitakaruru sale on Friday. The demand was fairly keen and most, of what was offering was sold. /The following prices .were realised : *Cows, £1 to £1 5s ; steers, £2 12s to £3 14s ; springers, £4 4s ; beef cows £3 ; heifer calves £1 Is, steer calves 15s. Sheep: Wethers 17s, 6d, evyes 15s. . TELEPHONE POLES. The telephone lines along tihe Wai-takaruru-Pipiroa Road have reached the corner where the road branches off to Ngafoa. There is now only a gap of about three miles to connect between Ngatea and Waitakaruru. PIPIROA. ROAD METALLING. The metalling of the unmetalled gap on •the road to Ngatea has been completed. The rails are now being taken up and moved to Ngatea. One _bf ths small engines and a few trucks are still working, taking back the sleepers and rails to the wharf. PATETONGA. MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS. The annual meeting of householders was held in the school, about twenty being present. Mr H. N. Taylor was voted to 'Uhe chair. As chairman for the past yeah, Mr Taylor gave a report of work done during that time.

The number on the roll was 82, and the attendance for the year had been uniformly good, while the Inspector's’ report was most satisfactory. The additions to the school were now com plated, and capable of seatfing 84 pupils The grounds were being beautified; also £6 of a grant had bean expended in levelling the parade grour/l. The past audit showed a credit of £lB.

A unanimous vote of thanks was passed by the meeting to the retiring committee, four of whom were not seeking re-election —Messrs Taylor, Fitness, Boatswain, and Cumberland. The nominations for the new committee nsisted of Messrs Mayn, Paterson, Patterson, darken, and Lindsay. As only fixe were required, they were declared elected.

At a subsequent meeting of the new committee Mr Mayn was elected chairman.
