LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
KEREPEEHI HALL. Sir. —In your issue of the 24th inst, we notice that the people of Kerepeehi have voiced a desire for a public hall (the preseht hall being Ihenl privately),. Further, we believe there is at the present time a ptition in circulation in connection with the same. The proprietors have for some time past-been contemplating the removal of the present hail to a more convenient site to suit the Hauraki Plains A. alnd P. Association. . If the people desiring a, public hall wbiild come forward in an open, manly manner and discuss the position with the proprietors, some suitable terms could be arranged.
It may hot be out of place here to mention a few facts as to how the present hall came to be privately owned '
. About one year and eight months ago a movement was on foot by the Farmers’ *Union (of Kerepeehi) to buy the hall, olvned by Witika Taupo. After appointing delegates to raise funds for buying, and the present proprietors paying deposits and standing expenses, just quietly let it fall ‘-through. Had the price of the hall not been found Kerepeehi to-day Would not have even a private hall to let at moderate charges to' the public.
The time is' evidently now ripe for the hall to be moved, and suggestions in connection with the same would, be welcome. Why does not some enterprising gentleman try and convene a meeting to form a progressive body to attend to such public matters and keep the district going ? A. J. and E. J. INNIS Kerepeehi, 26/4/22.
