REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Paeroa Referees’ Association was held in the Fire Brigade Shed on Wednesday evcn'ng. Mr W. Moore presiding. The report and balance-sheet were read by Mr R. B. Penlington, as follows : ■' Your Executive has much, pleasure in presenting to you its annual, re port and balance-sheet, for the season ending 1921. ilt the beginning of the season the Rugby Union decided that an attempt should be made to re-form the bld Referees ’Association, which had fallen through some years previously. A general meeting, of all interested was called on April 29, and ui though the attendance’was not larg? it was sufficient to warrant, the a?so : ciation being formed. We are pleased to report that during t tie season ~we took from the hands of the Union the appointment of referees. Two selectors were appointed, and they each week appointed referees for -the following Saturday. , Later in the season a Goldfields Referees’ Association was formed, which took upon itself the appointment of all referees for Goldfields Representative fixtures. Althougn this association did not have atn op portunity of showing its true worth, we are confident that, during the coming season to the Goldfields Rugby Union it will prove invaluable. From the balance-sheet it will be seen that we have emerged with a credit balance of 13s Id. There is no particular item which needs any special explanation for, as is to be expected, our expenditure was practically.. nothing. Your Executive regrets to report that this season the association will have lost one of. its most capable referees, Mr Bryden. Although wo had him with us for only one season, Mr Bryden proved himself almost popular and capable referee, and we sincerely hope that this season others will come forward and carry on the good work he started. In conclusion’ we would like to thank all who assisted the association during the year with its work, especially the Rugby Union, who at all times took a strong stand and assisted referees in maintaining 'the necessary disc-'pline on the field. For the coming season we are confident the association will attain the success it deserves and would ask all rf/iring players to join up and assist us in carrying on with the game. . The following officers, were elected: Chairman, Mr W. . Moore ; secretary, Mr R. B. Penlington ; selectors, Messrs W. Moore and A. Fielder; delegates to Goldfields Referees’ Assoc'ation, Messrs Moore and Fielder. The appointment of referees for the matches on Saturday was as under : Seniors —West v.
