ST. PAUL’S CHURCH.
ANNUAL MEETING. The attendance at. the annual meeting of parishioners held in the Parish Hall on Thursday evening was not so good as on former occasions, due, v«ry probably, to the fact that the report showed that the financial position was better than it has been for some time past. The total liabilities were only £l9O. Thanks to the splendid work of the Ladies’ Guild, they had an-income for t'he year of £213, a large portion of which was derived from the excellent sale of work held in November last. The executors of th.e estate pfj the late Mr Moore have paid to the vicar the sum of £lOO left by him to be used for the building of a new church at Paeroa. This, with the money already in hand, brings l the New Church Fund up to £271 6s 2d. Besides this there are promises amounting to £7OO available as soon as required. The Sunday School, too-, has had a good year. Together with 'the Young People's Mission Union they have ser.t away £3l for Mission work, besides paying for the expenses of the schoo’ and providing funds for t'he Sunday School prizes. During the year Sunday Schools have been started at Turua and Waitakaruru. Church sites have been acquired al Pipiroa and Kerepeehi, arrangements made for one at Kaihere, and application lodged for one at Waitakaruru. Mr E. E. Gi.llm.an has prepared plans and specifications for a church at Turua, There is, a sum of £250 )n site for the purpose of building, and the Ladies’ Guild is arranging for 'a fancy fair in December to add to the funds . It is expected tlhe church will soon be an accomplished fact. It was decided to slightly increase the stipend paid to the vicar, and to urge parishioners to more largely adopt the envelope system so thaitrthcfund for current expenses may be increased.
It. was decided ,to paint the vicarage and to cover the roof of the church with iron and consider the possibility of installing electric light, as it is feared that the financial stringency of! the present time will retard the erection of the. new church, at any rate for the present. Mr W. H. Blakeway was reappointed Vicar’s Warden and Mr P. C. FurIcy was reappointed People’s Warden. After a keenly contested ballot the following vestry men were appointed : Messrs W. J. Ellis E. Edwards, C. Gwilliam, H. J. A. Kennedy, N. Lawrence, W. Moorehouse, and F. Thorp;
votes of thanks were accorded 'to the Sunday School teachers the I.ndies’ Guild; and all church workers* for the splendid work they hatl done during the 'year.
