The publLriied statement of the Paeroa Borough finances certainly, reflects credit on the Council’s administration. A little over three years ago the debit was approximately /4000, equal to two years’ revenue, and the wiping ofl-of this liability in so short a time is surely a record in local body finance. It is gratifying to note that there will be ,£1670 available for public work this year, and that the work the committee has in hand is the matter of attending to the footpaths and main street. The position is indeed satisfactory, and justifies the attitude of the Council in refusing, despite criticism, to go in for expenditure on other than immediately necessary works until the debit balance was wiped off. ,We hope to return to this subject at a more convenient period. ______________
