PROGRESSIVE TURUA.

$ —_ — PROPOSED NEW BUILDINGS

There has for some time been commendable activity on the part of the Turua residents in obtaining better facilities for their, township and district. The latest assets are a resident doctor and solicitor, Dr. Bathgate and Mr Walker respectively. Mr Walker has already commenced his work and comments optimistically on the possibilities of the district warranting the services of a solicitor. Dr. Bathgate also announces that he has commenced practice. . It is expected that a hairdresser will open business in Turua and probably will establish himself between the library and the store.

To meet the increasing demand for office and shop accommodation there is talk of forming a building company whose duties it will be to meet the business and professional men’s requirements in the matter of office accommodation. The scheme which is now afoot, it is understood, is to erect a building containing offices and a board room for meetings. (When it is said that the building will probably contain a board room it is not inferred that the ,Town /Board isoperating in the scheme). The offices will probably be situated in the vicinity of the blacksmith’s shop and facing Hauraki Road.

Besides the building campaign on the part of the building, company, there are also statements to the effect that the hall is to be purchased by a local resident who is contemplating erecting a new one on the corner opposite the post office.

- With the coming of the electric light, the poles for which are only about half a mile from the township and the erection of the proposed new buildings, Turua will be a most up-to-date*’ township, and though it has been rapidly growing in the past, these added facilities will be conducive to far quicker growth in the future. There is, however, one drawback which wiil be a drag on the progress not only of the town but of the whole of the district—that is the bad roads. When this is remedied Turua should be an ideal township.
