THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY. WEDNESDAY. & FRIDAY. FRIDAY, APRIL 21, 1922. ESSENTIALS TO MINISTER.
Following up the tenour of a leading article published prior to the visit of the Minister of Lands (Hon. D. H. Guthrie) to this district, we stress the desirability of again bringing forward. the most important public projects when the Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates) is in Paeroa nex-t Wednesday and Thursday. Matters pertaining to the River Improvements Scheme will be handled by the Thames Valley Drainage Reference Board, in whose capable and very representative hands these affairs may safely be left. The need of a section at least of the Paerca-Pokeno railway, from Paeroa to Waitakaruru. in order to provide transport of metal for the Hauraki Plains roads, should be reiterated, and also the necessity for a fresh water supply to eliminate the loss suffered in stock owing to the present unsuitable sources. The Paeroa Post Office question is one that needs urgent attention, and the matter of direct communication to Patetonga from Paeroa is one of vital concern to the progress of a vast district. Deputations will do well to make their demands few, but to select the things that are of paramount importance, and lay them before the Minister in the most logical and telling manner possible.
