KIRIKIRI BRIDGE.
pate Tonga opinions BENEFITS DISCLAIMED. The much discussed proposal to bridge the Waihpu River at Kirikivi was brought before the Patetonga Settlers and Ratepayers’ Association meeting on Tuesday of last week, when Mr E. Walton - and Crs. Mayn and McLoughlin, of the Hauraki Plains County Council were present. Mr Rogers said the Kirikiri bridge promised: to be a very expensive affair, and he wished to know if Patetonga would be' brought into it. Mr Walton said with regard to the rating area the Patetonga riding members were not in favour of taking Patetonga in the rating area, but some of the councillors favoured Patetonga Riding’s inclusion. -The matter, however, had not yet been settled. Mr McLoughlin said some pf the councillors wished the area to go as far as Maukoro, but he assured the meeting that Cr. Mayn and he would . do their best to have Patetonga riding excluded. Mr Walton, said the rate for the bridge would be %d in the pound if the whole epunty were included in the rating area for the bridge. Mr Swnejr said t’hat a bridge over the Waihou would not benefit Patetonga. Mr Mayn said the bridge would be of no benefit to Pa'tetonga- Some portions of the Patetonga riding should have to pay a rate as part of it extended as far as Ngatea. “If the bridge is to be a national asset, let the Public Works pay for it,” he concluded.
