MAUKORO VALUATIONS.
A LAST RESOURCE. Much has been heard recently about the Maukoro Estate valuations. Following the action of the County Council at its last meeting, (further discussion took place at the Patotonga Settlers’ and Ratepayers’ Association’s meeting on Tuesday night of last week, when Mr E. Walton an! Crs. McLoughlin and Mayn attended. Mr Swney, a Maukoro settler, said that the Maukoro block had not been assessed rightly. The people on hill country had to pay rates that were not in proportion to those on the flat. Mr Walton said the County (had. no authority in the matter. All the Council could do was to endorse the requests. Mr Mayn said that if nothing came of the request to the Valuer-General a test case might be made off one particular case. ,
