FOOTBALL.
PAEROA RUGBY UNION- ■ t 3 COMMITTEE MEETING. At a committee meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union at wihch Messrs Silcock (chairman), G.< H. Taylor 1 , Garry, Roach, Vuglar, and the secretary (Mr R. B. Penlington) were present (apologies being received from Messrs Wells and McWatters), a number of applications for matches were received. The School dub applied for affiliation, and wanted to play in the thirdgrade , competition.—Granted. The affiliation of the Komata Club was accepted. The date for the beginning of club matches was fixed for Saturday, April 29. In respect to the Peace Cup, the committee decided to forward a challenge to the Thames Rugby Union. TURUA AND THE PLAINS! AFFILIATION INDEFINITE. Three delegates from the Turua Football Club waited on the Ngatea Rugby Union last Wednesday. The delegates were Messrs A. Scott, G. Portcous, and C. K< Fox. , Mr Scott sa’d Turua had not, definitely decided to affiliate with- the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union, and the Turua delegates- had to report to a mooting of th© club. The Turua delegates were really a .deputation to the Union wishing to be made clear on several points. Discussing the .travelling difficulties Mr Clark, on Waitakaruru’s be hal r , said- that if Turua affiliated with, the Plains Union Waitakaruru would help in the travelling'difficulty. When it was Turua’s turn io travel to'Waitakaruru the home team would provide conveyances to tafte the team, from Pipiroa. Mr Cashen said Patetpnga wanted home and home matches. The Patetonga district had suffered last season through only .two cup matches being played on their ground, and the public had consequently lost interest in the sport. If home and home matches could not be arranged witn Turua the Patetonga .teams would be prepared to meet them at Kerepeehi or Ngatea.
When discussing referees Mr Vincent, suggested forming a referees’ association, which should have a branch in each centre where there was a club. Discussions on the rules could be held after the matches, to enable the referees to h‘,ave more uniformity in ruling. Before the Turua representatives retired Mr Costello (chairman) assured them that “they would ge.t every consideration, from the Union. Mr Scott said some of the Turua members wished to join the Hauraki Plain' 1 - Union, but dthers did not. All the delegates expressed themselves in .favour bf affiliation with the Plains, but they could not give a decision till it had been discussed by the club members ,at a general meeting.
TURUA CLUB’S MEETING. AFFILIATION WITH PLAINS'. There was a good attendance at a general meeting of the Turua Football Club'on Wednesday evening, subsequent to the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union meeting. Mr G, Porteous oecunied the cihair. The delegates having waited on the Plains Rugby Union, and explained the position. After the delegates had answered a number of queries the meeting, unanimously decided' to .affiliate' with the Hauraki Plain- Rugby Union. , In addition to the officers previously appointed the following were elected: Delegates to the Rugby Union, Messrs G. Gray and G. Porteous : selectors, Messrs R. McLean, G. Porteous, and D. G. McMillan: general committee, Messrs E. Whimp, R. Gibbons, G. Gray, V. Cassin, J. Thrupp, A. P. Gardiner, and C. Bedford ; social • committee, .Messrs K. Fox, D. Fox, G. Elvin, H. Elvina W. Clark, F. Clotwonthy, and H. Robinson. The meeting supported the Plains Rugby Union’s endeavour to form a referees’ association, and decided to nominate three referees as members of the association. The colours decided on were black and white.
