Evidence in the Pipiroa murder trial is being taken at Thames today,, A handsome donation, fifty guineas, has been presented to the Hikutaia Bowling, Croquet, and Tennis Club (Alley Memorial Park) Fund, by Mrs J. Corbett, proprietress of the Hikutaia Hotel. Unfortunately, owing to the accidental omission of a line of type, the name did not appear in our mention of the matter in last issue. A committee meeting of the Thames Valley R.S.A. will.be held in the Soldiers’ Club on Wednesday evening to make arrangements for Anzac Day. Householders’ meetings for the election of school committees take place on, April 24; nominations must be in by the 17,th inst., Nominations cannot now be made at/ the meetings of householders.

. There are as yet no further developments in respect to the proposed establishment of a paper manufacturing mill at Karangahake.

’ Mr W. M. Cullen's property of 48 acres, advertised on pa?y> 4 of this issue, is now withdrawn from sale. This intimation came too late to alter the advertisement for to-day’s issue.

The scheme to run a combined motor and coach service from Paeroa to Pokeno is still on flip cards, an-1 new developments may come to light shortly.

The need of direct communication between Paeroa and Patetonga,, which was-brought under the notice of the Minister of Lands (Hom D. H. Guthrie) during his recent visit, is one ojf the subjects that comes into the province of the Minister pf Public Works, and may well be dilated upon when the Minister arrives here in a fortnight’s time.

A motor garage and and a Dodge car, belonging tp Mr T. Me-' Cormick, of ' Huirau Road, Turua, were destroyed by fire on Thursday night. The car was insured for £250, the amount of insurance having been reduced only a few weeks before. The garage was not insured.

In. memoriam references were made by the Rev. McDonald in the Presbyterian Church last night to the late Rev. Alexander Gow, who was minister in Paeroa for some years, and the late Mrs James McAndrew. Both deceased contributed in no small measure to the project of' building - the present St. .Andrew's Church, and to other activities for the welfare of the town and district.

At a meeting of the Paeroa Business Men's Association held on Thursday it was decided that the Easter holidays be observed as follows : Thursday to be the late night, close on Friday, re-open Saturday (half-day), and close o. Monday.

The names of Colonel Allen, Morrinsville; D. Donaldson, Waihi (Mayor) ; and F, M. Strange) Mangaiti (chairman of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board), are mentioned as possible opponents of Mr Hugh Poland, sitting member, for the Ohinemuri seat at next election.

It is welcome news to motorists and others who use the Hauraki Plains roads that the Lands Department is at present metalling t;h.e Kerepeehi-Ngatea Road from the Kerepeehi corner to Parry's corner. Blue metal is, being used, and although -it will be hard on tyres till a more even surface is obtained, the road should be better able tp withstand the heavy traffic during the winter months.

The Lands Department is at present dismantling the Hopai blacksmith’s shop, which is being moved to Kerepeehi. The Hopai pipe works are .also to be moved to the Department’s Plains headquarters.
