ROTOKOHU REQUESTS.

REPLY FROM MINISTER; VISIT OF INSPECTION, Under date ofi April 6, 1922, the Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates) writes as follows to the secretary of the Rotokohu Ratepayers’ Association, Mr W. D. Keys: “I have to. acknowledge the receipt Of your letter of the 3rd instant, enclosing copy of-a communication sub mitted to my colleague, the Hon. Minister of Lands,, relative to the damage sustained in the district as a result of floods, and also drawing attention to the necessity for land drainage improvements. "In reply I have to inform you that I have this day approved of certain minor works being proceeded' with upon the recommendation of the Department “I understand some of your settlers are very hard put-to, even for an existence. It is hoped that by starting some work near at hand It will be availed of. by the settlers. There are other works also to be put in hand, but I am going to personal ly lock into matters on the ground about the 26th and 27t'h inst. “I regret it has not previously been possible tp arrange an inspection, I feel it is’necessary I should do so to enable me to understand your troubles. “I am sorry that you have had such very frying experiences. Mr McKenzie- has given a very clear description to me personally.” The following reply ihas been sent to the Minister: “On behalf of the above association I am requested to convey to you the thanks and approval of all our settlers for your favourable letter of April 6 to our association. Wei note with special satisfaction your decision to visit Paeroa and inspect our district on the 26th and 27th inst, and we trust Hon. Sir., to be able to supply you with all evidence required as to the needs of our area.—l have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient servant, W. D, Keys, HonSecretary.”
