THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL

THE MONTHLY MEETING* '. / ■ ■ The monthly general meeting of the Thames County Council was held at Thames on Wednesday, The following are the members: Crs. H. Lowe (chairman) and J- McCormick (Tntara riding), A. Alley and W. Brunton (Hikutaia riding), R- Cox and P. Faithful (Puriri riding), -E. J. z Niccol and G. R. Blackett (Hastings riding). £6OOO LOAN. Authorisation for the raising of £6OOO, . part of the £50.000 Machinery Loan, was received. The clerk was.instructed to complete the necessary formalities, as per resolution. —Carried, WHANGAMATA RESERVE. Mr N. A. Palmer, secretary of the Whangamata Settlers’ Association, writing in reference to the stock reserve, stated that the gates were com!pleted. A coil of wire had “disappeared.” and the Paeroa police had not been successful in tracing the culprit. The Association desired that the control of the reserve be vested, in it, and that similar reserves be erected in other parts of the County, —Requests agreed to. UNIFORM BY. (LAWS. The clerk of the Hauraki Plains County Council (Mr E. L, Walton) wrote asking the Thames County Council to co-operate with Hauraki, Ohinemuri, and Piako in compiling and adopting uniform by-laws, on lines similar to those followed in' Taranaki. The chairman said that Thames had all the by-laws it wanted; in any case, conferences with some people did not seem to be productive of much good. LOCAL BODIES FINANCE ACT. Regaiding the Local 1 Bodies Finance, Act, the chairman said the Council was starting the year with a clean sheet. The Act was doing what he wanted the Council to do for itself long age/. The chairman proposed that the overdraft be wiped out by loan, and a clean start made. He would pl'ace the estimates for the current year’s expenditure before the next meeting. —Loan proposal agreed to. ' The chairman said that, the Council was really £lOOO better off than at this period las.t year. AH' accounts were paid up, but there would be no money available now until the new rates came in. However, there would be a clean sheet until. May. PURU WATER SUPPLY. Mr F. E. Powell, C,K, advised that it was quite practicable to provide a water supply scheme ..for, the township of Puru by hydraulic ram. Sixty houses could be supplied with fifty gallons per diem. - The chairman proposed to refer the matter to Mr W. M. Cullen. •Jr, McCormick said the water could be taken from the creek alongside.' . CURIOUS MATATOKI-ITE. Mr A. K.. Maxwell - was curious to learn what timber was specified foe the posts for fencing Bond’s Road, who was tb pass it, and what it cost. —Received.
