THE NGATEA CLUB. ANNUAL MEET (NG. About 30 football enthusiasts attended the Ngatea Football Club’s annual general meeting in the Ngatea Public Hall on Wednesday evening, and, if the enthusiasm shown at the meeting is any indication, the Ngatea club should have a very successful season. There were 26 members enrolled during the evening. Mr D. A. Vincent was elected to the chair, and expressed pleasure at the success of last season’s achievements. He hoped that the coming season would be even P better one for the local club. In presenting the balance-sheet the secretary, Mr C. G. Mellor, said that the club had a credit balance of £4 Is 7d. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron, Mr Hallyburton Johnstone; president, Mr W. G. Hayward ; vice-presidents, Messrs D. Green, A. R. Vowles, W. J. Clare. L. Rowntree, A. Cleaver, W. McDuff, F. Kneebone, G. T. Davidson, H. E. Harvey, T. McClean, M. Rogelick, R. E. Jamieson, J. Banks, and J. H. Nicholson; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. G. Mellor: committee, Messrs D. A- Vincent, D. Green, C. Smith, S. Phillips, AL E. Holden, and T. McClean; s.ole selectors, D. Green (seniors), C. Smith- (juniors) ; delegates tp the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union, Messrs D. Green and C. Smith.
The meeting decided to retain last year’s colours, namely, black. Subject to the owner’s consent it was decided to play on Mr Hayward'? grounds, as last season. In order, to improve the grounds, next) Saturday afternoon was fixed as a date for a working bee. It was resolved that a new player in the club should be played in the junior team until that member proves himself worthy of a place in the seniors. To augment the clubs funds it was decided to hold monthly dances, and fihe following dance committee was formed: Messrs S. Phillips, A. B. Holden, R. Jackson, J. Banks, A. Banks, and H. Martin. It was announced that Mrs Green was donating a medal for the best .senior back, Mr Smith a medal for the best all-round juni.or player, and Mr Vincent a medal for the best senior forward. It was decided that the selectors of the Plains Rugby union be the judges to select the winneis of the above trophies. To open up the season a fancy dress match, married men v. single, was fixed for April 1. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr Vincent was elected chairman of the committee. A recommendation was made to the union to endeavour to form a referees’ association, to control the Hauraki Plains matches.
