A first-offender forfeited £2 bail at the S.M. Court this morning, his trouble being that he was drunk while in charge of a horse he was driving in Normanby Road. The official opening of the Public Stand, which was announced for last Friday, is now postponed until Friday next, the 31st instant. The lease of 50 acres near Netherton (Education reserve) will be offered for sale by public auction at the Lands Office at Hamilton on Wednesday, April 5. Particulars are advertised. A credit balance qf £133 ,10s 7d for the Hauraki A. and P. Association was disclosed by the secertary (Mr Edwin Edwards) at an executive meeting, held last which condition of affairs called forth appreciatory remarks from those present. Unfortunately, owing to the outstanding accounts, the cash balance is rather low. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mrs Jas. McAndrew was moved at an executive meeting of the Hauraki A. and PAssociation last evening. Mr P. R. Hubbard and others stressed the good work done by the deceased lady in connexion with the horticultural exhibitions.

A lad named Clement James Murphy came before Mi) P. E. -Brenan, J.P., at Paeroa yesterday, charged by the Police with having, on January 26, at Hikutaia, stolen a saddle, the property of Clement o’Brien, valued at £4 10s. He was also charged with having, at Hikutaia on January 22, been deemed to be an idle and disorderly person -within the meaning of the Police Offiences Act, and being without la.wflul means .of support. The accused came before the magistrate (Mr J. H. Salmon) this morning. His Worship said the boy himself was hardly to blame, considering the circumstances he was living under. He would be convicted on both charges,, and sent to the Waikare Reformatory for six months’ reformative treatment.

At the Methodist Church the special song service that was to have been held last Sunday in, keeping With the Centenary Services will, be held this Sunday. The anthems "The Sun shall be no more” (Woodward), "Incline thine ear” (Himmel), and the "Te Deam” (Jackson), will be rendered by the choir, the soloist being Mr R. Mitchell*

Medals for service in the x Great War, 1914-1919, are being distributed, and a number of local ex-soldiers have received theirs. The medal, of a golden' bronze colour, is somewhat larger than a half-crown in diameter, and about twice as thick. The face is embossed around the circumference, encircling the inscription, “The Great War For Civilisation, 19141919.” The obverse side bears the figure of Britannia, with the left arm outstretched, and the right hand holding the olive branch of peace. The regulation rainbow-tinted. watersilk corded ribbon accompanies the medallion.
