There was some exceptionally heavy rain on the Hauraki Plains yesterday. The downpours were accompanied by vivid flashes of lightning and heavy claps of thunder. The weather was at its worst between 3.30 pirn, and 4 p.m, when the thunder seemed to shake the buildings and the lightning nearly blinded one. A horseman at Ngattea, it is stated, was nearly lifted from nis saddle by the force of the blast, which appeared to be just overhead
