THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. FRIDAY MARCH 17, 1922. RACING AT PAEROA.

The flags 'will be flying at the local racecourse to-day and tomorrow, on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club. Only those in close connection with racing affairs know the immense amount of work and worry that is entailed, and the prospect of showery weather would discourage the most optimistic, but Mr H. Poland and his fellow-officials can be depended upon to meet the situation in a true sporting spirit. With large fields and a class of horse well above the average, the racing should be high class, and the scheme of improvements boldly entered upon by those at tlie head of affairs~should add to the pleasure and comfort of those assisting at the gathering. The annual fixture held at Paeroa has always been of a carnival nature, a meeting-place for the sporting enthusiasts from near and far, and it can be safely assumed that this year will be no exception to the rule,, and that th e re will be many hearty handshakes during the twodays’ programme. When the totalisator bell finally ceases tomorrow. it will be gratifying’ to learn that records can be entered up under more than one heading.
