HAURAKI PLAINS COUNTY
ENGINEER’S REPORT. The following report was submitted to the Hauraki Plains County Council by the engineer, Mr R. JDillon— Wilson’s Road.—The contractor for the completion of the formation and culverting of Wilson's Road, Netherton, is proceeding with the work, but the wet weather has somewhat retarded operations. A good deal of traffic is going through this road. Metalling at Ta.huna —The metalling of the main l Tahuna,-Morrin.>-vile Road is being carried on by the two Council lorries. The road through the paddocks to the quarry cut up badly during the recent rains, but it has now dried up.. The stone in the quarry face appears to be impproving a little but it is not yet of a very bad nature. The month’s output was 501 cubic yards. Bridge Kaihere-Patetonga Road. — I inspected the creek above the bridge at Mangawhero where it is threatening to scour the approaches away, and find that the best remedy is to clear out part of the old creek and cut a new drain of about five chains in length to prevent the water flowing down t'he road drain. I understand, however, that, the landowner objects to this being done. ’Foot-bridge at Kaihere. —If the posts can be procured I hope to have thp small foot-bridge over the Ngarua stream near Kaihere erected during ■ the month, A little ' sawn timber will also be necessary, but I think this can be procured from the sawmil in the vicinity. Plans in Preparation.—Plans for the small bridge and embankment near McDonald’s,, on the Waitaka, run; Kaihere Road, are in preparation, as are also the plans for the concrete culvert to replace the pipes at deviation, Ta.huna. Bridges on Miranda Road.—Timber for the repair of the bridges on the Miranda Road, in the Waitakaruru riding, has been ordered. Two of the bridges are in a very decayed state, and are to be replaced by concrete pipes. All the pipes at the Miranda wharf will, be used except, a few of the very large ones. Bridge near Netherton School. — Should a couple of round spars be procurable in the locality T will have them put in this bridge during the month. A new biidge is necessary however, or else very large concerte pipes.
