RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION.
THE REFERENCE BOARD. GENERAL MEETING WANTED. A meeting of the Tirphia-Rotokohu-Pereniki Ratepayers’ Association was held in .the Criterion Buildings on Thursday night, the president, Mr LCassrels, occupying the chair. There was a representative gathering, memmers attending from Netliertop and Hikutaia. Several replies from the Minister of Public Works were read, but as such replies are of the' stereotyped form usually employed by the Department a further wire as follows lias been sent: “Minister Public Works, Wellington : Your wire received. Engineer has visited flooded areas, but most settlers were unaware of same His report cannot express individual damages from farming point of view. Why not have Crown ranger’s report? Our position too serious for procrastination.” A letter with full damages suffered by each settler us also being forwarded to the Minister, by the secretary, Mr W. D. Keys. It was further decided that the association write the Thames Valley Reference Board, asking flor an early meeting of same to consider report of the recent. River Commission, and the Government attitude thereto, A motion was enthusiastically carried “That the Association hold its annual meeting and dinner at an early date.” Prom the general interest now beI ing shown by members the AssbciaI tion has a valuable and active futuie before it.
