THE BUTTER BONUS.
PAYMENT THIS MONTH. MARCH PRICES. 1 g • At the cheese suppliers’ meeting s> Netherton on Tuesday night the large number of butter suppliers present were given an opportunity to ask questions. Mr Heappy asked when the butter payments would be increased and the final payments made. Mr Sinclair said that owing to the unfortunate circumstance that several shipments arrived in London at about the, same period, and that the cheese being covered with meat freight was held up until the meat was discharged, an adverse effect was caused, on the market. There was al-t most a collapse of the butter market, and that had had a serious effect, also. They had overdrawn from? London merchants and paid- the money to the suppliers. They had to repay that money, and a postponement had been made of the final payments. They could not have taken back from suppliers to whom they had paid too much. They had a substantial sum of money due tor them from the Government, but that had been disputed. He had said it was £50,000, but since then £12,000 had been paid. The final payment would be paid in full. He hoped that everything Would he squared up by the 31st of this month. The company had only been allowed to draw 9%d for butter from the London merchants, so that cnly a low advance payment could be made to the suppliers. Mr Buchanan had informed him that this mbnth’s pay-i ments for butter-fat. would be the same as last month, and for cheese lid per lb. Referring to overpayment of early suppliers, he said that the factories had to be kept open and the early suppliers should.’ have some consideration.
