NGATEA SCHOOL PICNIC.

AN ENJOYABLE OUTING. Postponed from, Friday on account of the unsettled weather, the Ngatea school picnic was held on Monday in pleasant surroundings and almost ideal weather conditions. The sky in the morning seemed very threaten-*, ing, but fortunately no rain fell, and the school children,- accompanied by their parents, proceeded to the picnic grounds on the property of Mr T. Wheeler on the Horahia Road. Those who were not able to flnd conveyances to take them were conveyed to the grounds in cars put at the school com’mittee’s disposal by Messrs W. GHayward and W. J. Clare. Mr Wheeler’s property, with its fine clump of trees, makes a sheltered and pictursequet picnic ground, and th.at Mr Wheeler’s hospitality was greatly appreciated by adults and children alike was evinced by the three hearty cheers given at the conclusion of the day. The/programme to amuse the children consisted of the usual races, lolly scrambles, and games. The sack race, interesting enough to the competitors, was as amusing to the on-; lookers, to see the youngsters hopping, floundering, and sprawling over the ground in their frantic endeavours to breast the tape before the others. One girl was seen to fall only a yard from the tape., while a boy was lucky enough to tumble over as he passed the winning post. At the conclusion of the day Mr McDuff, chairman of the School.
