PAEROA SEWERAGE.

PROGRESS OF THB WOBKI RETARDED BY FLOOD. BUT GOOD HEADWAY MADE. SEPTIC TANK STANDS THE TEST. The contractors for the Paeroa No. 1 Area drainage and sewerage system (Messrs Anchor and Co., for whom Mr H. Rusdon is supervisor) are making good progress. In reply to queries by a representative of the “Gazette," the Paeroa Borough Council’s clerk of works (Mr W. H. Taylor) explained that the whole of the 18-inch main sewer pipe was laid, and 15 chains of the 12-inch was completed, despite the fact that the floods had retarded the work.. The main sewer ended at Thorp Street, and when this was completed a start would be made with the branch drains. With favourable weather the contract would be finished in good time. Mr Taylor states that after the recent, flood he made a thorough examination of the septic tank, and Was pleased to be able to report that it had stood the test well, especially in view of the flat and low-lying contour ’of the ground. The whole gate system in the tank was flooded by the water from the town, but no water got in from the river. This was most reassuring in view of the doubts sarnie people had in respect to the efficiency of the septic tank under the peculiar local conditions existing.
