LOCAL AND GENERAL.
In respect to the recent Hauraki Plains County Council loan poll, it is officially announced by advertisement in tp-day’s issue that an inquiry is set down to take place at Thames Court bn Tuesday, March 7. But. notwithstanding the official, notice, which is inserted to comply with the provisions of “The Local Bodies Loans Act.” it is extremely probable that; the inquiry will be adjourned to a later date to suit the convenience of the respective parties and the Court. The nineteenth annual: show of the Waikato Central Agricultural Association will be held on the Showgrounds, Cambridge, on Wednesday and Thursday, March 8 and 9. The. Paeroa Stock Sale (Messrs Dalgety and Co.) takes place to-i morrow (Thursday). A co-operative terminating building society was formed in Te Aroha lasweek, the provisional directors being Dr. K. F. Gordon, Messrs W. Mackie, H. Jackson, C, H.' Stephenson, Geo. Gilchrist, E. A. Bruce, and R. Woodroffie.
Mr A. L. Mitchell, piano-tuner, is now in Paeroa, and will visit Patetonga and out-country ■places as soon as the roads will permit. Orders for tuning may be left at this office.
John Lewis Gilbertson pleaded guilty at the Paeora Court to-flay, bei fore Messrs P. E. Brenan and G. Wilson, J.P’s., to having been fighting on the street in Paeroa;, and to using obscene language. Sergeant O’Grady said the man had been under a probation order, which had expired. Drink was the accused’s trouble. A prohibition order was made for one year, and a fine of £3 was imposed.
Despite the flood waters, Messrs Brenan and Co.’s motor service got through to Ngatea yesterday morning with a number of passengers, via Wharepoa. On t.he return trip eight passengers came through, the trip being made via Netherton, and arrangements were made to get the passengers across the flooded Puke bridge area, where another car was,in waiting on the Paeroa side to bring them on into the town. .The firm have demonstrated in a- striking fashion their determination to keep the service going if It is humanly possible to do so. The experience illustrates the argunient that the Plains motor ■service should, in the interests of Paeroa and the Plains, be in t|he hands of people who are determined to overcome, all obstacles, and have the necessary men and means to prevent a prolonged break in the service.
The Waihi River Gold Extraction Coy. Ltd. advertise for sale their interests in various properties. .
