CRICKET.
PAEROA DEFEATS; TE ABOEE&. Notwithstanding the fact that Paeroa were only .able to take half their regular eleven to Te Aroha on Saturday, they defeated Te Aroha by five runs altter, a hard game., Conditions were very unfavourable for cricket when Te Aroha, on winning the toss, sent Paeroa in to bat on a slow, tricky wicket. The Paeroa , team, unaccustomed to a heavyturf wicket/did poorly, the whole side being dismissed for 29 runs. Rain was still falling when Te Aroha commenced their innings,,and Carroll to,ok two wickets in his first over. Te A r °ha never recovered from their bad start, and thanks to Carroll's fine bowling were dismissed for 24 runs. Though the ball was greasy and a foothold hard to obtain, Carroll came out with the splendid analysis of seven wickets for 10 runs. Bowden, too, bowled well. Paeroa did better at their second attempt, the score standing at 46 for two wickets, when, heavy rain stopped play. All through the game batsmen had to" fight hard for runs, the outfield being very dead and the ball heavy. This is the second tHme that Paeroa has defeated Te Aroha this season.
