ANOTHER FLOOD.

25FT. 6IN. LEVEL REACHED. Rain has been falling in the back country which! forms the Ohinemuri anil Waihou (watersheds' since last Wednesday, with the result that the rivers are rising rapidly.. The Ohinei muri is, ab the time of writing (10.30 a.m ) at the 25ft 6in level. Officers of the Public Works Department’s Paeroa office are taking soundings and velocities at the Criterion bridge, under the supervision of the Resident Engineer, Mr. L. May. Already the water is over the old Te Ai'oha road, and is submerging parts of the Waihi Road. . It is feared that owing to the continuous rainfall the flood will be greater than that of a few weeks ago, and those living on low-lying areas are taking what precautions they can. Were it not lor tjie stop-banks, the water would be just about; overflowing into Paeroa. Unfortunately, stop-banks are not completed in some outdistrict localities. In view of the report recently made by the District Engineer in reference to the Criterion bridge, -it seems dolibtful whether this structure is perfectly safe for traffic. The flood may rise still, higher, s.eeing that it is 25ft 6in at low water, and high tide is leached at about 6 o’clock. 1.45 p.m.—Two cars have just returned to Paeroa after a fruitless attempt to get to Te Aroha.
