While speaking to a toast last evening Cr. White said that as a borough councillor he would assure all that the matter of having a good football ground would receive, his hearty support as soon as the opportunity comes.

Tenders are invited by the Ohinemuri Jockey Club for .the inside and outside refreshment booths at the club’s race meeting on March 17 and 18. A petition was filed at the Magistrate’s Court, Thames, yesterday, to have an inquiry held into the loan proposals poll recently taken by the Hauraki Plains County Council, and which, was carried by a fifth of a vote. Mr Ryan, solicitor, of Thames, is acting for the petitioners. The Telegraph Department is making good progress with the telephone line from Auckland to Paeroa, the poles having reached Waitakaruru on the west and Ngatea on the east. The linesmen’s camp, which was recently near Kerepeehi, has been. mov-( ed to Ngatea. A number of cases set down for hearing at Wednesday’s sitting of the court were adjourned to a special sitting of the court on" March 8, while others were set down for hearing on March 21. The Lands Department recently stated that the road from the Kerepeehi corner to Pgrry’s corner was to he remetalled. The commencement of this work has been delayed, and so far only a few loads of metal have been put on the' road. It is expected, however, that .the work will sopn be commenced in earnest. An application for an order on a judgment against John Kptara, a native, was refused at the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday last by the MagH istrate. Defendant said that his earnings only averaged £2 5s per week. He had just come out of the hospital and was out of employment. There were dependent upon him his wife and child, his grandmother, and sister-in-law. A tribute was paid to Mr Arthur Bush last evening for the excellent work he had done for the West Football Cldb. In proposing his toast Mr E. Edwards said that “Arthur” was the best football' sport that Paeroa ever had. / Mr A. L. Mitchell, pi ano-toner, connected with A. Eady and. The boisterous weather which prevailed was ! no doubt the On Wednesday next, March Messrs Parker and Marks, auctioneers, will conduct a sale at Barry Road, Waihi, where they will offer for disposal the . whole of the furniture and effects of Mrs Irvine.
