A movement is on Ifoot to send a New Zealand tennis team to take part in the inter-State tournament at Sydney irr April. Nothing definite has been decided yet, but the proposal will be considered at a meeting of the New Zealand Tennis Council next week. . • The Railway Deaprtment draws attention in tbe advertising columns of this issue to a special advertisement in connection with, train arrangements for the Thames races, on February 25 and 27, 1922. At the Court this morning Jakob Bertelse'n, who pleaded guilty to a breach of the Beer Duties Ac,t in not keepipg a register of Ms casks, was on tihl information of the Collector of Customs fined £2 and costs' £lo,los Bd. Suitable arrangements having been made for the suppply of metal from Karangahake for the Netherton-Tu-rua Road by the chairman of 1 the Hauraki Plains County Council and Cr. Death a contract has been let to Messrs Brenan and Co., Ltd., for carting the metal from the Paeroa railway station. The work is to com-; mence in a few days. At Gisborne the other day a man was fined 10s arid 7s costs for not moving on at the request of a constable when talking to a girl] pn the footpath at 11 a.m. In connection with the .Hauraki Plains Show on Saturday there were three weight-guessing competitions for the dead weight of sheep, a pig, and a heifer. These animals have since been killed, the weights being. sheep 2591 b, pig 751 b, heifer 5321 b. The winners are: Sheep, J. Simm 2531 b 1, T. Foote 243%1b 2. Pig, A. Henderson, W. Davey, and J. Wyllie each with 751 b. Heifer, N. Young 531’1b 1, A. Douglas 5291 b 2.
