KAIHERE. , SAWMILL STARTING. Messrs Mclndoe Bros, are building a sawmill in the foothills at Kaihere, on Mr W. Wallace’s property,' from which, it is expected to cut 200,000 or 300,000 feet of timber. IMPROVING A DRAIN. \ The Ngarua end of a drain leading from the hills along tjhe roadside is being improved. While the improvements are being effected the . waters are being diverted northwards along a smaller drain. NGATEA.

SHOW NIGHT ENTERTAINMENTS. While the. Show officials, were being "entertained at the school after the Show on Saturday a benefit picture programme was being shown at the hall. Though extra acpommodation had been provided, with the recent enlargements, there was little room to spare, and the hall funds, to which the proceeds are to be devoted, should benefit considerably. A dance was held after the pictures, about 120 people remaining. Mrs Potter provided the music, extras being played by Miss E. Fipegan. Massrs A. McConnell and A. Hanks were M’slC. THE - HALL COMMITTEE. ' A meeting of the Ngatea Hall Committee was held in the hall on Monday' evening, with Mr W. G. Hayward lin the chair. The following were also present: Messrs W. J. Clare, S. Philn lips, R. Bratlie, and C- Mellqr, secretary. It was announced that the picture benefit on the Saturday had attracted a £22 house, giving a clear £l6 for the committee’s funds. , The committee was satisfied with the enlargement scheme, which was nearing completion. Tije stage had yet to be completed with the addition of wings. It was decided to hold an official opening o£ the additions on Friday, March 10, the function to take the form of a concert and dance. Mr Mellor was deputed to arrange the concert. The possibilities of organising a bazaar were also discussed, and it is probable that on the night of the annual meeting this matter will he put’before the settlers. Mr Clare announced that several ladies appeared to be interested in such, a venture ,■ and had promised their support and co operation. The committee was unanimous that a working bee should be organised to improve the hall grounds. The filling up of the old creek bed with fas-v cines and clay would' be part of the work. motion of condolence was passed tp Mrs Phillips and family in their redbnt sad bereavement. AN ACCIDENT. An accident, which, fortunately was not attended by very serious conse-t quenees, occurred along the Canal Road on Sunday, a trap containing three persons being precipitated into the canal through the breaking of a rein. No serious. injuries were sustained. ' PIGS.. Mr J. H. Nicholson was receiving pigs at Ngatea for the Kiwi Bacon Company on Monday. About 50 pigs were brought to the depot. TURUA. ECCLESIASTICAL. The Rev. R. Fulton Falconer, Presbyterian minister for Hduraki Plains, stationed at Tur.ua, is. shortly to leave the Plains for Otago. His place will be taken by the Rev. D. C. Stewart. TENNIS. The semi-final of the Laidlaw Cup tennis competitions is to, be played between Turua and Kopuarahi. The match will.' most likely be played at Turud next Monday. It will be remembered that in the first round, played last Saturday week, Turua beat Waitakaruru, Hopai beat Kaihere, while Kopuarahi had a bye. BATHING 'ACCIDENT. ; While diving from a concrete floodgate at Turua recently a boy named Alfred Stephens had a nasty accident,, a stake cutting him rather severely in the abdominal regions. The lad is reported to be doing fairly well, and his condition is not thpught to be very serious. < —-

NETHEBTON. CHEESE SUPPLIERS. A meeting of cheese suppliers to, the Nethertpn factory was- held on Friday evening, Mr G. Death pecupy-'-ing the chair. Mr W. Matthews was appointed secretary for the meetingIt was decided to invite Mr Sinclair, ■of the N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Co., tp address a meeting of suppliers, pnobably to-morrow night, A DANCE. There was good supply and demand and the ■ prices showed improvement.
