POKENO TO NGATEA.

POSSIBLE NEW MAIL ROUTE. i At' the meeting of. the Hauraki'. Plains County Council on Monday a letter was received from Mr W. Heaven, of Maramarua, as follows: - “The East Coast Road from Auckland to the East Coast is nearly all. metalled, except a portion /of your county which is. the worst part of the road, and if you’ will, do your best to get- this done the settlers on the Plains could have a daily mail leav- 1 ing Auckland in the morning at 7.10 o’clock delivered to the post office at Waitakaruru by 12 noon, Pipiroa 12.30, and at Ngatea at 1 p.m, 'A 1 car leaving Waitakaruru at 5 a.m, could connect at Pokeno with the 7.50 train to Auckland, and return from Pokeno or Auckland by the train .arriving at Pokeno from Auckland at 6,20 p.m'. As soon as sufficient passenger and parcels service was offering I would, suggest advertising for someone! to put on a motor bus service between Ngatea and Pokeno, and I think there are plenty of people who would only be too pleased to have the chance to run the service if it were known, “I hope you and your councillors will do what you can in the matter, as it is going to be a boon to the settlers of the Plains and the places en route to Pokeno.” The letter was received.
