KOMATA. THE KOMATA CREEK. Thirty years ago, it is said,, large punts could be taken up the Komata Creek. To-day a dinghy could npt be navigated in it. To make this waterway more serviceable fer taking away flood waters a dredge is digging a canal 41 chains up the creek. The canal will be 14ft deep, with a 52ft top and 4 Oft CLEARING THE WILLOWS. At different points along the river there are many men joining up stopbanks and clearing the willows. It is contended that the willow roots block up the waterway. When the trees are killed it is expected that the flood waters will be facilitated in getting away.
