LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

NGATEA MEAT PRICES. Sir,—ln reply to the letter appear-' ing in Wednesday’s issue of the “Gazette’’ re the above subject, I should have thought that after my last letter anyone would make sure of his statements before writing to your paper, but evidently this is not so with “Consumer.” He could' not dispute the figures I quoted last time, so he ignores the subject under discussion, namely, the price the local butchers are charging, and makes a personal attack on me without coming into the open and signing his name. I must say that his method oif attack is about as unfair as his statements ,are incorrect. I cannot think that he com sumes any of the Ngatea beef, or- he would know that his statement as to the price of a shin of. beef is' absolutely untrue, I will gladly .sell him all the shins.nn the shop for Id per lb, and be gtyd to get, it. If “Consumer” knew anything of the trade be would know that in the hot weather a butem er is glad to sell shins of beef for what they will fetch-. Then, as to his further statement, I have yet to see the 9001 b bullocks he speaks of in the Ngatea yards. “Consumer” has drawn on his imagination again for this statement. I will be pleased to buy his fat bullocks or ,fat sheen at the price I quoted, provided that they are. fat. In co.nclusioh I would like to offer “Consumer” a little advice, although I fear he does not want to take advantage of it. Let him come to my shop and look at my price-list before making further rash and incorrect statements. I will also make him a further offer/ If he thinks there is such a good profit in butchering he can buy my business for what it has cost me. • J W. G. HAYWARD.
