The New Zealand dairy companies’ advertising campaign in ’the Unitec Kingdom, intended to promote the sales of New Zealand butter and cheese, was launched this, month, and is, we understand, having a good effect already.
The matter of public conveniences in Paeroa, the lack of which is often mentioned by put-district people coming into the town, was again before the Paeroa Chamber of! Commerce last night, when a letter was received from the Paeroa Borough Council stating that finance was the trouble. A special committee of the Council was set up to go into the matter, and further advice wouldbe sent- to the Chamber of Commerce later on. The attendances during the recent Chautauqua seasdn in Morrinsville were very meagre, and as the expenses were heavy, totalling' about £lBO, the guarantors wi'l,l be called upon to contribute £3 18s each to make up the deficiency.
Messrs Parker and Marks report having held a successful clearance sale at Waikino on Saturday last. A line of heifers brought 15s per head and cows from £5 to £7 10s; Cobs (horses), £ll and £3. Farm implei ments ant}- household effects brought the ruling market prices.
A satisfactory feature of the business at yesterday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board is that" the Messrs Gauvain and McLeod, reported that actual costs approximated very closely to the estimates of proposed expenditure, and that the whole scheme will be completed for the £500,000 covered by the- loan. \
’ Tenders are invited by the secretary of the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association for a refreshment booth on the showground at Ngatea on Show day, the 18th inst., up to Saturday,) February 11.
The N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd-, will pay put this month exactly similar amounts to last month’s figures; namely, 9d per lb for superfine, 8% cl for first-grade, and 6%d for seen ond, and Is for cheese. Asked by a representative of the "Gazette” what was the latest information in respect to the Home market for butter, Mr Geo. Buchanan, local director, said the outlook was hopeful. The London price was 14'5s per cwt.i, and a few sates of superfine had been effected at 150 s. The cheese prospects were considerably improved by the clearance off the market of the Canadian supplies.
It is reported that a in tho Pahiataa district who twelve months ago was reputedly worth £lO,OOO U about to leave his farm, practically without a penny.
