THE Hauraki Plains Gazette. With which is incorporated. THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1922. PLAINS SHOW SCHEDULE.

Entries for the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Show close to-morrow, the fixture being dated for Saturday, February 18. The schedule this year has been, much revised and considerably enlarged. A notable feature, as remarked upon in the president’s (Mr P. R. Henry) note, is that the classes in the cattle schedule have been confined almost solely to dairy cattle, the Association being desirous of encouraging the raising of pufe-bred stock. For a kindred object, the education of the younger generation in the merits and demerits of stock, substantial prizes for the amateur judging competitions are offered. There are eight classes in the milking Shorthorns, three in the grade; eight in Jersey pedigree and three in grade, and the same in the Friesians, with the usual classes for unregistered milen cows, fat cattle, and calves, respectively. All classes are very well arranged for, and should draw plenty of competition. The saddle horses, jumping and riding competitions (the latter open to, all comers) make a goodly list, and from the spectators’ point of view will be the feature of the Show. The ladies will be especially interested in the industrial section, there being 19 classes in cookery, 11 in preserves, etc. Horticulture has also been given a prominent place, comprising 21 classes in garden produce, 3 in field, 7 in fruit and 7 in floral. The needlework section covers a very wide range, there being no fewer than 30 classes, from “fancy blouse”

to "any article of underwear made by hand, embroidered.” A special appeal is also made to school children in the 14 classes comprising drawing, writing, plasticine work, essays,. mapdrawing, and best collection or useful grasses. The schedule (printed at the " Gazette office) although it is for only the second show held by the Association, compares favourably with those of many older organisations in the Dominion, and reflects in every page a most commendably enterprising spirit on the part of the members of the executive, who have obviously put a great deal of time and thought into its compilation.. It now remains for the public to co-operate heartily. Any entry, however small, will help the Association to achieve success, and to advance the terial interests and prestige Oi the district. The entries, close to-morroWi so that there is ye« time to do something, effective towards swelling the list of exhibits for a fixture which, has already become the most important one on the Plains, and is destined to grow to very large Proportions, and attract stock-breed-ers and others from far and near to visit the Plains every year. The Association will need all the assistance it can get, and; those who study their personal and district interests will loyally see to it that support will be generously forthcoming.
