NGATEA. - HALL ENLARGEMENTS. Mr W; J. Clare, the contractor for the hall enlargement scheme, hoped to’'Complete his work by the date of the Hauraki Plains Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Show, February 18. The heavy rain on Wednesday afternoon and all day yesterday, however, has had the effect of preventing work on the building, and if the bad weather continues it will be impossible to fulfil his wish; Before the interruption of work the front wall had been pulled out and placed in its new position. The other two walls have been built, but the roof has not yet been pnl on, though the iron is on the site. PATETONGA. GOOD CROPS. Fourteen months ago on a certain piece of land there' was little else except scrub and ti-tree. To-day there are some exceptionally fine crops. -Maize (Yates’ dairy cream) i’_ 3% months old and stands between nine and 10 feet high, .An oats crop, 2% months in the ground, is five feet high, while from 3 InSthi acres the owner claims tp have cut 10 tons of hay. 'With these crops there has been no manure used. The planting is simple. The ground has been ploughed and disced, and the seed sown broadcast and disced ip. Milllet is also growing particularly well. Two lots of potatoes were planted on this farm, one h.aving manure and the other none. The lot with manure is a failure, wihile the other is healthy and is growing well.
