Netherton district people have good grounds for complaint against the Hauraki Plains County Council on account of the undue delay in forming and metalling Wilson’s Road. This road, leading . almost directly off the main road from the Puke bridge, and coming out on the AwaitiNetherton road about half a mile from the Netherton school, shortens the distance from Paeroa to Netherton by some miles. But the factor of distance is of the least importance, the main thing being the difference ip foundation and the consequent qualifications of the respective routes for carrying a good permanent road. The present metalled road has a peat foundation, and it is considered by practical rp'en that it never can be made a really good road, but would always be expensive to maintain in any sort of reasonably good condition. But with the exception of the pumice patch at the top end, Wilson’s Road has a clay sub-soil, admirably suited to carry a good weight of metal and heavy traffic. While making every allowance for the special difficulties the Council has had to contend with, it dpes appear that Wilson's Road, for which loan money has long been available, should have been both formed and metalled before now. This view is strengthened by the circumstance that the Council has had grading done on roads further out, and which have now gone back to their original condition alniost. It is omissions like these in various parts of the County which have, in their cumulative effect, helped to defeat the loan proposal.' However, things seem to be taking a turn for the better ; a committee of local members of the Council met at Ngatea a few days ago and decided to push on with the formation' of Wilson’s Road. The translation of words into deeds will put a better complexion on County matters.in Netherton riding.
