COMMITTEE MEETING. FIXTURE NEXT MONDAY. A committee meeting of the Hiku- ( lain Sports Club was held on Satuv-i day night, the president, Mr I. M. Robinson, presiding over Messrs 'G. Collins, P. Maxwell, M. Morrison, A. Thomas, A. Alley (senr.), W. Welch, A.'Samson, J. Kelly, G. Avery, Johnstone Bailey, P,. Corbett, J. M. McKenzie, G. Hannam, W. Morrispn, A. Alley (junr.), R. Grace, H. Cameron, A. Gubb, L. Martin, and the secretary, Mr W. J. Norton. The secretary reported that satisfactory arrangements had been made for a supply of chopping blocks. Catering had been provided for. A Walhi firm 'would be supplying the soft drinks. Local tradesmen Were being patronised as far as possible with small goods, etc. The committee’s action in making the arrangements abovementioned was approved of, on the motion of Mr Alley, seconds od by Mr Kelly. . / The president reported havihg arranged for a ticket office at the gate, Mr Hannam being in charge. The Hauraki Band would be in attendance. Several members- promised to give a hand with, the carting of the blocks. Mr A. Thomas was appointed number steward, ; vice a previously appointed gentleman who found he would be unable to act.
The following chopping committee was appointed: Messrs Johnstone Bailey, G. Avery, M. R. Morrison, P. Maxwell, W.- Welsh, L. Martin, and A. Duncan. Guessing' Competition Committee. —■ Messrs W. H. Alley and Vivian Young Children’s ' Events.-—J. Kelly, A. Gubb, H. Morrison, and J. Corbett. Mr Bailey emphasised itbat it was desirable to make better provision for the public to see the chopping. The secretary replied that the ring would be much bigger this- year ; at least threer times the number of people would be able to see with comfort, as against the arrangements of last year. Call steward.—Mr Chris. Downs. Running Committe.—Messrs M. A. Ellis, J.. Thomas, A. Samson, Cameron, with power to add. , Mr F. A. Walker was appointed or- , ganiser, representing the Northern Athletic Union. The committee ex-i pressed tits appreciation of Mr -Wai leer’s services being available. Dance committee, to arfange for a dance on the evening .of the sports day.—Messrs P. Corbett and F. Hill M’slC.; A. Thomas, W. “Welch, R. Grace, •A. K. Alley, J. Kelly. The, dtu/e is to be a “long night” 1 one? the local baker being asked to cater. - It was decided that Mr Williams’ orchestra be secured for the dance. 'The charge was fixed at 2s 6d anc£ Is 6d. ■ The president stated that some of the runners wanted the running to be the reverse way this ye,ar; in formei: years the running had been somewhat uphill. After full discussion it was found that there were too many difficulties in the way of altering the method, and it was therefore decided, to run in the same .direction as usual. Mr P. Corbett, G. Collins, W. Welch, and the. secretary were appointed to arrange the heats? ' ; : Mr George Asher’s offer of a tent and fly for the grounds was accepted with thanks.
