BOWLING.

THAMES V. PAEROA.

The popularity of inter-club matches was made manifest on Saturday last, when 32 members of the Thames Bowling Club journeyed to Paeroa to play an inter-club match with the local bowlers.

Tn extending ,a hearty welcome to the visitors the president of the Paeroa club (Mr G>H. Taylor) thanked them for coming in such force,, as it was the first occasion on which an B’trink inter-club match had been played on the Paeroa- green. Thanks to our worthy caretaker (Mr W. H. Hamilton) the green was better than ever, find many favourable comments were made by the visiting bowlers regarding the fine state of Paeroa’s green.

A very delightful afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames G. H,' Taylor and F. E. Balcke, who tastefully decorated the tables wltlli the club’s colours (royal blue and gold). All the games were very keenly contested in the good old bowling fashion, and the resultant scores reflect great credit on the selectors of both clubs.

The match was won by Paeroa club by the nariw mg’rgin of 8 points, the aggregate scores' being: Thames 147 ; Paeroa 155. '

In making his response, Mr Lowe (president of Thames club) eulogised the play of the Paeroa bowlers, daily when taking into iconsideration the fact that Thames club was 140 strong and Paeroa about 60 strong. Mr Lowe thanked the local bowlers for a most. pleasant afternoon spent here, and extended to the local club a hearty invitation to play a return .match at Thames, when he hoped his club wduld regain the ashes.
