THE NGATEA HALL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of hte Ngatea Hall Committee was held on Saturday evening, when the following attended: Messrs G. T. Davidson (Chairman), W. J. Clare, S. Plri'llipps, and C. Mellor (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs W. G. Hayward and R. Brattlie. THE ENLARGEMENT SCHEME. Mr Clare, who is in charge of the enlargement scheme, reported that work had commenced that morning and he would endeavour to have it completed by February 18, the date of the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Show. Included in the scheme was the removal of the bridge acrossi the drain to a position in the centre of the hall frontage. The meeting thereupon decided to inform the Postmaster-Gen-eral of the enlargement scheme and removal of the bridge, and ask if some arrangements could be made for access to the present post office. Mr Clare also proposed tb construct a foot-bridge for the convenience of pedestrians entering the hall property.

It was decided to cover the workmen on the job with an insurance policy. It was also resolved to inform the users of the hall that while the additions were being made some inconvenience may be caused, but Mr Clare would do all in Iris power to minimise the inconvenience. CHURCH SERVICES.

With regard to erligious' bodies using the hall, the secretary was ask-, ed to arrange with, each denomination a system whereby they would use the hall in rotation. It was stated that the hall rent for ecclesiastical -purposes was gratis, but a small charge would have to be made for the night services', the first off 1 which was to be held the next evening. Incidental reference was made to the Sunday School, the chairman saying that Messrs Jones and Dudding had done commendable work in that department. THE NAMELESS HALL. The chairman drew attention to the fact that Ngatea had a hail, but no name for it. He thought they should decide on a name, which could be painted on a board and attached to the hall. It was eventually decided to name the building "Ngatea Hall. It was also decided to attach a notice board to the front of the building for the purpose of notifying forthcoming events in the hall. SMOKING PROHIBITED. The Committee considered that smoking in the hall .during the picture entertainments was resented by the ladies and the practice should stop. The secretary was asked to inform Mr Hamilton that the committee expected him to endeavour to prevent smoking in the hall during ’his pic-\ ture entertainments. LEASE OF LAND. The secretary was asked to interview Mr H. E. Harveyi, manager of the Ngatea dairy factory, with reference to a piece of ground the committee proposed to lease from the dairy company.
