NETHERTON. EUCHRE AND DANCE. In the Netherton Hall on Friday night a highly successful euchre tournament and dance was held. Included among the large number present were a number of visitors from roa, Hikutaia, Turua, and KerepeeTn. The euchre tourn,ament, which occupied a portion off the evening, was conducted by Messrs T. Vowles and T. . Johnson. Each game was entered into with a commendable spirit of friendly rivalry, the winners proving to -bb Mrs Rou'iton and Mr B. Johnson. Tn?, prize for the successful la'dy and gentleman was in each case a goose. ■ The dancing, which; was under the control of a capable M.C., Mr, T, Jonn-i son, was . continued until an hour in the morning to the music of Miss Sarjant. Miss Coutts supplied extras. The floor was conducive to good dancing, but the humid atmosphere was a slight disadvantage to the dancers, who nevertheless spent a Ji very pleasant evening. . WILLOWS ON RIVER BANK.; ■»?.; Several of the Public Works Depart-: in'ent employees are engaged barking, the willows along the banks of the - Waih.ou River near Netherton, with a view to killing the trees or obstruct- . ing their growth. KEREPEEHI. FLAXMILL MAY RE-OPEN. Judging by information received at Kerepeehi it is possible that the old flaxmi.il may re-open. t Details are meagre, but it is expected that in a ' short time flaxmilling will Soon be recommenced there. PERSONAL. Messrs Dance and Smeeton. of the Auckland office of the Lauds Department, are at present guests o|f Mr B. Taylor/ KAIHERE. SOLDIER SETTLEMENTS. The contractor entrusted with the work of forming the Poufua Road is making very satisfactory progress. This new road branches off the Ngarua, road and runs in the direction of Torehape, giving access to the soldier settlements there. TURUA. .SPORTS CLUB. A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Athletic and Sports Club’s committee was held at Turua on Friday evening, the chief business- being to discuss and to make arrangements for the forthcoming sports gathering, to be held on February 9. The committee expressed gratification on the success of the children’s sports and picnic held last Monday. An effort is being made to entitle the forthcoming sports carnival to be ranked among the foremost in the district.
