CHILDREN’S SPORTS.
GALA DAY AT TURUA. The- children of Turua enjoyed a treat on Monday, when a picnic and sports were held, under the auspices Sports Club, on the recreation ground. The day’s programme consisted mainly of races,’which were well contested, and some spirited finishes were by no means rare occurrences., Mr J. Bennett officiated as starter ’and Messrs G. Gray, S. Murray, and J. Schmidt as judges. Refreshments were supplied free .to the children and catered for by the ladies, but for others’ appetites Messrs Chapman and Davis kept a refreshment booth on behalf of the Sports Club. In the evening a very pleasant dance was held in the Victoria Hall, about 60 couples attending. Excellent music was provided by Mesdames Mules, Goodsell, and Walker, while Mr J. Schmidt was M.C.
