PLAINS SHOW MEETING.
LAND PURCHASE AUTHORISED. GOOD RESULTS ACHIEVED. A general meeting of the Hauraki Plains Agricultural and Pastoral As-> sedation was held in the Ngatea Ha'l on Wednesday, the president, Mr P. R. Henry, occupying the chair before only a fair, attendance of members. The secretary, Mr E. Walton, reported that a large amount of canvassing had been done and read a list of 32 intending members. These were duly elected members of the association. The president and secretary were authorised to operate on the association’s bank account. THE LAND DEAL. The president, referring to the proposed purchase of land at Kerepeehi, briefly outlined the proposal, details of which have previously appeared in the “Gazette." Mr McLoughlin asked whether the ground could be acquired under the O.R.P .principle. The president re-, plied .that the Government would' not alter its terms. . Mr A. Chatfield moved that the 7 1 X> acres (the present recreation reserve) adjoining the. association's present grounds at Kerepeehi be. acquired. Mr J, H, Carter seconded, and the motion was carried.
Mr McLoughlin moved that £1309 be borrowed to complete the purchase. Mr Chatfield seconded, and the motion was carried. ' PREPARING FOR THE SHOW.
The president reported that the Paeroa people had responded very well to a canvass for. prize-money, and he hoped that the Thames business men would do likewise. ' 'Hie schedule committee had met and revised the schedule. It had been decided to eliminate some classes where it was thought entries would not warrant inclusion. It was hoped to make a special effort in the dairy classes with increased prize.-money, and the jumping event money should be cut down and put to the dairy classes. Amateur judging competitions and judging competitions for boys and girls would be 'included, and in the latter class a pedigree Jersey bull had been donated by Mr G. T. Davidson. The pedigree of the bull was f o be circulated. It was Valued at a hundred guineas. Messrs Hall (Matatoki) and Byrne (Paeroa) had promised help. A/cup had been donated by Mr D. Green.
Mr D. G. McMillan suggested utilising the cattleyards to advantage and to confine all cattle to one yard as it would give show patrons a better opportunity \pf viewing the exhibits. Several speakers agreed with the suggestion.
Mr McLoughlin moved and Mr McMillan seconded, that the meeting recommend to the Grounds Committee that all cattle should be confined in one set of yards. The president declared Mr Keith the winner of a cup for Jersey cows donated by Mr .Bagnall. The cup had been wrongly awarded, but. Mr Keith’s name had since been engraved upon it. It had been their intention to present the cup to Mr Keith at the meeting, but the cup had not been brought along. A cup \ fpr fat bullocks had also to be awarded .to Mr Hallyburton Johnstone, who was also the donor. The president, in conclusion, said that the association’s biggest difficulty was finance, and urged all members to do their best to help. MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
Some members of! the executive committee ’of the Hauraki Plains Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Wednesday visited Mr G. T. Davidson’s farm to inspect the pedigree Jersey calf which is being donated by Mr Davidson as a prize for the children’s judging competition at the forthcoming show on February 18 The" members expressed great pleasure at seeing such a fine type or animal.
The committee decided to add to its number, and Messrs T, McLoughlin (Kaihere), J. F. Mayn (Patetonga), and W. E. Hale (Kopuarahi), were elected committeemen.
