DISTRICT NEWS.
NGATEA. NEW SCHOOLMASTER, At a meeting of'the Ngatea School Committee, Mr W. McDuff presiding, approval was gi ven to the possible appointment of Mr Robt. E. Jamieson to the position of headmaster of twe Ngatea school. Mr Jamieson’s qualifications are numerous, having had experience at school-s-at Cabbage Bay, Hunua, Coromandel, and at Karangahake School of Mines. KEREPEEHI. SOCIAL EVENINGS. On Monday evening a very pleasant social and dance was held in the Kerepeehi Hall. Dancing was interspersed with items by Mrs Twist, Miss Solberg, Mr Twist, and Master Dally. The excellent dance music was. provided by Mrs Murdoch, and Messrs Murdoch and'Twist, while Mr R. Brat-i lie was M.C.
A farewell social was held on Wednesday evening, the guest of the evening being Here Whitika, who is shortly leaving the district for Gisborne. Dancing to the strains of an accordioa was the main feature of the programme. Miss Royal obliged with a song. A SPECIAL PICTURE: Great interest is being taken in the announcement that a special pic-i ture, “The Betr.ayer,” an Australian and New Zealand production, is to be screened at ,the Kerepeehi Hall tomorrow evening. The principal scenes are laid in the thermal regions, and the native population is more than usually interested as a number of Maoris are in the picture. TURUA. WORK ON WHARF. The work on wharf has been delayed during theUblidays, but it is to be hoped, that this important work will sopn beafn in earnest.
