A further step in respect to the propcsed visit of a Parliamentary delegation to the Hauraki Plains was taken at Morrinsville yesterday, when delegates from the various local bodies and chambers of commerce participating met to discuss.thg matter. Briefly' outlining the reason of the proposed visit, the promoter, Mr W. Clement Cargill, said those present had probably all read of the Parliamentary delegations which had visited various parts of the Dominion, at the request of the residents, for developmental purposes in regard to local requirements. All the towns and centries on and adjacent to the ’ Hauraki Plains. had interests more or less in common, and it .was for the purpose of promoting those, interests that the delegation was mooted. He made no secret of Morrinsville’s desire to have .the main road brought through the-Piako and Plains counties. Dther centres had their special objects to attain. If. politicians could be persuaded to make the trip they would acquire a first-hand knowledge Of the vast potentialities of the Plains as one of .the greatest producing districts ip the Dominion. (Applause.) Members could then vote in the House frpm personal knowledge, when matters affecting the Hauraki Plains were under review by the Legislature. It was very desirable to have the Hon. the Minister for Public Works (Mr J. G. Coates), and. air the local members, and us many others as would come along. After lengthy discussion the following resolution was carried, pn the;, motion of Mr Cargill, seconded by Mr Miller: "That this meeting of representatives affirms the desirability of invicing a Parliamentary delegation to visit the Hauraki Plains, and that; a committee be set up to allocate'the costs.” • .
Mr J. C. Miller was elected chairman of the committee, and Messrs E. Edwards and T. E. McMillan joint secretaries. In order that the meeting place-for the committee should be as central' as possible, it ,was decided that the next meeting should be held at Paeroa. Instructions were issued that the invitations be sent out immediately, as it is desired that the visit should take place at the conclusion of. the present session of Parliament. - Mr Herries, M.P. for Tauranga, in a letter tp the Morri’nsville Chamber, of Commerce, signified his intention of forwarding the scheme in every way. v - I
