DISTRICT NEWS.
KEREPEEHI. , z THE SCHOOL. A meeting of the Kerepeehi School Committee was held on Monday evening. The following were present: Mr Booth (chairman), Mesdames Murdoch and Innis, Messrs Jamieson and Bagnall (secretary). The committee decided to .hold a ' social evening to raise funds for the school Christmas tree. The children and parents Will be co-operating to arrange a\ first-rate musical . programme. and Mrs Murdoch, Miss Evans; and Mr Twist were deputed to make arrangements. To .hold a picnic on breaking-up day was another decision made at the meeting. Twenty new, large, arid healthier desks have arrived at the school to replace old ones which the health inspector had recently condemned, THE LANDS DEPARTMENT. Owing to the pressure of work, the Lands Department has found it necessary to' purchase a new car, which is to arrive this week. PERSONAL. Mrs Murdoch is spending a short holiday with Mrs W. K. McLean, of Komata. NGATEA. METALLING CANAL ROAD. ■ The Lands Department intends to commence the metalling of the Puhanga Canal Road this week. \ WAITAKARURU. NEW WHARF FINISHED. . The Lands Department reports that the new wharf at Waitakaruru is now completed and ready for traffic. OPENING AWAITI BLOCK. ARRIVAL OF SURVEYORS. A large gang of surveyors have arrived to cut up for settlement the northern end ofl the Awaiti block. A wooden traffic bridge at Ngarua and a bridge over the Awaiti canal about six or seven chains above the wharf at Kerepeehi are part of the scheme. * 7
