BRITAIN’S BEST BICYCLE
THE RUDGE-WHITWORTH. One of the most famous of al'l-Brit-ish made bicycles, the Rudgei-Whiit-worth, has been aptly described as “Britain’s Best Bicycle.”, It is a big thing to say, but examination and comparison lead one <tp the conclusion that this description does not exaggerate. The ’lajtest model Budge is—to use the familiar short title —comprises in its construction the last word in scientific cycle-building. The hollow cranks are of great strength, practically unbreakable and unbendable, and of blue rustless steel. In addition to the back hub brake (Eadie Coaster), there is a front rim brake on a new double -fever principle which reduces friction on the rims to a minimum, and does not wear away the plating as does’ the ordinary rim brake. Thus there is double security —an important factor* in hilly coun- j try. The handle. bars are enclosed , in celluloid, thus doing away with the possibility of rust and indentions of the metal. I
An especially good feature of the new Rudge is double butted stem from the front’fork-head, tapering into the single stem ait the handle-bar crosspiece, which factor ensures great strength where the jar of bad roads often causes a fracture in the ordinary bicycle. The saddle position is scientifically arranged to give a perfect balance to the machine, and to enable the rider not only to push down on the pedals, but to get the backward and upward pull so necessary to efficient propulsion ; as the cranks go around there is a push on one. pedal' and a pull on the other at the same time, giving J:he maximum foot-power with the minimum of effort. Even the mudguards indicate the application of expert knowledge in their makeup; they are strong,, of V shape, ahd so formed .th,ait splashing on the rider, is ouj, of the question. And with all its strength, the latest model Rudge, which may be spen at the works of the Paeroa. Engineering Co., is comparatively light, the full Roadster, with its rustless spokes, the equipment of which, including pump, complete set of tools, bag, etc., weighs a neat.. 301 b. The price is very reasonable, being only £lB 10s for precisely the same model as is said to be selling in the cities' at £24 and £25. Those who desire to possess the' best that, is to be got in push-cycles will be well-advis-ed to see the new No. 1 Roadster model Rudgc-Whitworth on view at the works oB the Paeroa Engineering Company, Limited- before going elsewhere for a dearer, and perhaps inferior machine.
