TURUA TOWN DISTRICT.

COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT FAVOURABLE. THE COMMISSION’S FINDING. The following is the text of the finding of the Commission appointed to go into the matter of the application to make Turua a town district. To His Excellency Rt. Hon. J. R. Je'llicoe, Admiral of t,he Fleet, . Governor-General and Commander in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies : May it please your Excellency.— Acting under, a warrant issued under your hand dated May 20, 1921, appointing us a Commission to hold an inquiry and to make a report on the suitability or otherwise for municipal control of an area for a town district to be known as the Turua Town District we have honour to report. After due notice had been given an inquiry was held in the Turua Town Hall on July 22, 1921, when much evidence w r as tender&d both for and against the proposal. ~ The principal objection is that too much' farming land was included in the boundaries of the' proposed town district, and vfe consider that a reduced area would be more suitable for municipal control. The business part of the township in the vicinity of the port requires improved footpaths, lighting, and sanitation- . The evidence shows that the County Council, by reason of insufficiency of 1 funds is unable to provide 'the facilities required. As Turua is s. business centre with a wharf where vessels from Auckland call several times a week and it is the main port for that end. of the Hauraki Plains, we are of opinion that improved facilities for the increasing. popiilation are required, and we consider it.would be advisable that a Town District be set up for ■the area as amended. We have the honour to be, Your Excellency’s most obedient servants, /■ (Sgnd.) H. M. SKEET W. F. WALLIS.
