, THE SPORTS CLUB. The Hauraki Plains Athletic and Sports Club is nearing the finish of a year’s successful operations. During its short existence the. cliub has held two athle‘•■iXjy^thprin g». promoted boxing classes; and inaugurated a series of very popular dances. It I is understood that the club’s annual ' meeting; will soon be held. A committee meeting is to be held next Thursday. SPORTS CLUB DANCE. Another of those exceptionally pleasant, social, evenings promoted by the Hauraki Plains Athletic and Sports Club was Jheld in the Victoria Hall, Turua, • lafst Thursday evening. A copious supply of coloured streamers and greenery was worked into a very effective decoration scheme, giving the interior of* the hall a warm, cosy appearance. Upwards of 40 couple attended. Mr J. Treadaway rendered every satisfaction at the piano,, while Mesdames Goodsell and J. Mules obliged with extras. Mr J. Schmidt made a very capable M.C. A very amusing interlude was experienced .shortly .after supper, * when Mr Davis had been deputed to auction several dishes of cakes which had not been required for the supper. The wares realised good prices. There was some keen bidding for the last plate, which contained two jam rolls. From 2s the price soared to 6s 3d, when it was knocked down. “Seven shillings,” l came a voice, and much to the surprise of the owner of the aforesaid voice, the auctioneer held him responsible for the purchase of the jam rolls at 7s. The total amount realised from the sale of cakes was £1 19s 6d. STOCK SALE. There was only a fair yarding of stock at the Turua saleyards on Friday, and while- some of the cattle were Of high order, there was a little of poor quality. There was good demand for. good quality dairy cattle, but the -poorer animals received-very few bids. Bulls werd'not in great demand. The following prices were realised : Yearling heifers-, £4i .th £5 ; dairy cows ' up to £l9; store cows £1 10s to £2 5s ; beef cows up to £6; steers £9 16s; bulls'up to 21gns.
