The annual! meeting of the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association will be held at Ngatea on Friday, November 4', at 1 p.m., as advertised.

In Saturday’s Auckland papers two pictures, "Dynamite, Allen” and “The Blushing Bride,” were advertised to be screened at the "Queen’s.” Both these pictures had already been shown at the Central Theatre, Paeroa, where it is no uncommon thing fbr the leading stars to appear well ahead of the city theatres.

Not being in any city commercial “ring,” Mr J. Dennis, proprietor of the Waikato Monumental Yard (Main Street, Frankton Junction), is in a position to supply kerbing and headstones at reasonable rates. As stated in his advertisement in this issue, all work is guaranteed. ’Phone 2366, Frankton.

For some time the local police have been endeavouring to lay hold of persons supplying liquor to Maoris at Tirobia., Yesterday a man named Leonard Armstrong was arrested on the train near Tirohiain an intoxicated state; and having liquor in his possession. He was brought bfefore Messrs P. E. Brenan and A, White, J’s.P., and fined £2. The police are, making strenuous efforts to stop the drinking on trains, and also the supply tb natives, and further developments may. eventuate.

The Piako Shipping Co. has had such a successful run with the s.s. Oneroa that the vessel is paying its way handsomely, and at a meeting of the directors held ajt Ngatea yes- , terday Mr D. G. O’Carrolil, chairman, presiding, it was decided to increase the capital. The amount subscribed in the room indicated that the capital will easily be over-subscribed. Certainly the great increase in the trade .warrants an increase of capital for developmental purposes.

It has been intimated to us, in regard to the Borough Council arid •the Refinery correspondence question, that Cr. T: P. Vuglar, although he formally seconded a motion that the outward correspondence be approved, he did not actually read that correspondence. as reported in the “Gazette,” he having been indisposed at the itime this correspondence was first dealt with at the previous committee meeting. It is plain, therefore, that Cr. Vuglar had not actually sfeen the letter the debate was, about. .

Visitors tp Hamilton may note that the attractions of the town have, been added to by a new restaurant, "The King’s Grill Room” (Mr E. C. TassaL) in Victoria Street, opposite Ward Street, in the buildings adjacent to the King’s Theatre.. Good luncheon, and morning and afternoon teas, are served in the' best city' style, the house obviously being under the direction of one who knows the business from A to Z., and permits none of those crudities commonly noticeable, in the ordinary! “hash-house.” The King’s is c place one makes a mental, and also culinary note of. with a view to a return call on a future occasion with one’s friends.

The committee and teahcing staff of the Paerpa District High Shcool Eave been, working together in the preliminary steps towards providing funds for the erpctipn of a suitable gateway to the school, the provision of netting wire for t,he tennis lawns, and other improvements, which they’ hope to ’have effected before the opening of the new additions to the building. A combined meeting was held in the school yesterday afternoon, Mr CPascoe presiding in the absence of ;the chairman (Mr W. H. Taylor), to make arrangements. It is intended to mak-' the opening date a gladsome gala day, with, jumble’ stalls, games, and various fbrms of entertainment. The “Gazette” will enlarge on the proposals a little later, when the various schemes aire hearer maturity. In the meantime, the teachers would be pleased to receive toys and other saleable articles which might help to augmfent the funds on “The Great Da 4
