FISH AND GAME MATTERS

The trout fishing season, which opened, on the Ist inst., has been rather disappointing owing to the heavy rains. Anglers who have septuredx pus state that although the rivers are) not yet in -trim they were able t,b land a few fish, ranging from .1 to 41b.. Aw soon as the weather improves \ good bags should be obtained. ' Mr D. Leach;, secretary of the ’local society, informs us that 15,000 trout fry have arrived, and will be : liberated as follows: Waitawheta River, 10,000 ; Hikutaia Stream, 3000; Komata Stream, 2000. Las.t week 5000 were liberated in > the Hikutaia Stream, and with regular stocking this stream should afford good sport in the future.

ACCLIMATISATION CONFERENCE. The proposed conference of Auckland;. Waikato, and Ohinemuri delegates will probably take place during this month, when it, is hoped some definite movement will i>e inaugurated to increase the supplies of game and fish in the country districts.. Some sportsmen are of opinion that, failin' the consent of the Minister of Internal Affairs to the proclamation of a separate district for Ohinemuri and Waikato, a movement should ■be organised to demand that Waikato and Ohinemuri districts 1 should be merged under the control of the Department at- Rotorua. - \ .
