The respective merits and demerits of benzine and steam propelled road rollers are matters of interest to local bodies having in view the purchase of reading machinery. It is stated that the Piako County Council’s benzine roller is not a satisfactory proposition, inasmuch as it sometimes takes hours to get started of a morping. Also, it is argued that a small roller would be better for swampv country than a large one. The pressure per square inch could be the same in either case, but the smaller roller would be much, more easily turned jind manoeuvred about on the crown of a road without having to get on to unmetalled sides to turn.
